🎹 Meet Professor Besser!

Scott Besser is a widely recognized pianist, composer, and educator whose work blends musical excellence with an extraordinary gift for teaching. With over twenty-five years of private and institutional instruction experience, Scott has taught thousands of students of all ages and abilities—from enthusiastic five-year-olds to dedicated adult beginners—nurturing musical growth that is as engaging as it is effective.

Growing up in the 1970s and ’80s, Scott absorbed the vibrant musical world of The Muppet Show, Sesame Street, and artists such as The Swingle Singers, The 5th Dimension, and Chicago. His background spans classical piano competitions, rock bands and musicals, songwriting, and jingle writing—experiences that continue to inform his unique blend of classical structure and contemporary flair. Scott received a Bachelor’s Degree in Music with an emphasis in Performance, Pedagogy and Music Industry from James Madison University. As a member of the National Federation of Music Clubs, Scott has served as a judge for NFMC composition competitions at the local, regional, and national levels.

His original piano music is designed to engage and motivate students, especially tweens and teens. Originally created as studio passion projects, his works quickly spread beyond his own studio when colleagues across the country began teaching them with great success.

Much like his early influences Robert Vandall and William Gillock, Scott draws inspiration directly from his students, shaping pieces that are fresh, accessible, and rewarding to play. His music is especially effective at helping learners break through the “method book plateau” and develop confidence as independent musicians. His piano works combine memorable melodies, rhythmic energy, and accessible harmonies—crafted to ignite student enthusiasm and keep them playing for years to come.

Scott brings the same core belief to every aspect of his musical life: music enhances your life, and sharing it—whether in a lesson or on a stage—is a sacred joy.
